Voltage Measurements
Vehicle sensors such as pressure or throttle position
sensors report measurements as a voltage reading. A voltage reading can be used
by several systems at once, for instance the TPS signal is shared between the
ECU and Zeitronix systems. Both systems can tap into the sensor signal without
affecting the signal reading.
Resistance Measurements
Air and Fluid temperature sensors work by physically changing resistance as the
temperature changes. To measure this resistance and determine the temperature of
the sensor internal power and an internal resistor are used within the engine
management system. This technique is used when setting up a
temperature sensor on the Zeitronix Zt-2 User2 input. For the Zt-2 Wideband
these values are known and we can calculate the temperature of the sensor. The
internal power and resistance of stock and aftermarket engine management systems
vary and so calculating a temperature based
off of a sensor shared between systems is not allowed. Each system must use
its own sensor.
